prints

when i started pulling mono-screenprints at semi public print studio in fall 2003, my visual language increased substantially. though working in a medium that is loosely related to painting, i find screen printing to be less structured. i paint on an open screen with water-soluble inks, then pull the print. each print consists of multiple pulls, resulting in layers of luminosity and color saturation. no two prints are identical. with screenprinting i'm able to work through ideas in hours, whereas paintings would take weeks. i use colors i don't usually paint with -rethinking what that choice of language implies.
