conversations
from the underground, 2004
After Denver we knew there would be a continuation of the first
collaboration, just as we knew the continuation would be more conceptual.
Again, because of the constraints of distance, we began Conversations
by shipping packages back and forth. We wanted to focus on the relationships
between artifacts, mark making and texts. In Conversations we introduced
work created individually within certain material and size parameters
but installed as one work. Alicia came to Asheville the week before
installing at The Black Mountain Center for the Arts. The resulting
installation exceeded our expectations of collaborating. Our individual
artistic hands had completely blurred into one. It was at this point
we decided to form Spondere, though it took several more months
to find the name that would fully describe our collective.
